Spring 2005
Updated 3/22/2005

Spring is here!

I always know when spring is here on my annual pilgrimage to the daffodil field.

It's a gorgeous field of old fashioned daffodils near Coleman Lake in the Talledega National Forest. You go down bumpy dirt roads looking at the bright purple of redbuds and the tinges of green on the trees. You're riding along the ridge tops and the trees are still bare enough to see the mountains.

The first time I went, Roger and I had been dating a month or two. We piled the dogs in the car, took a picnic and went to this gorgeous place he'd talked about for a month. Absolutely beautiful. While wading in a nearby creek, Casper slung mud all over everything and all had a wonderful time!

Then, we get back in the car and he mentions his family's only about 10 minutes away and we're going to see them. (He only gave them about 5 minutes notice.) So I get to go meet my future mother in law with mud everywhere, my hair mussed and definite day in the woods clothes on. I'm fairly sure Mary thought I didn't bathe or wash clothes!

We return every spring. And now, we bring my in-laws!

The Focus on Color video is FINALLY shipping this week.

However, I now have two videos I'm very proud of.

The first week in April, we'll be meeting in Savannah for a fantastic workshop! I'm very much looking forward to seeing Savannah in the spring. All the flowers bloom then and the azaleas are simply spectacular!

I'll be back there in May for the Seafood Festival, my favorite festival of the year! It's wonderful to just relax on River Street, watch the little tugboats shepherd the massive ships and eat seafood. Ahh, that's the life!

I'll be at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens for a workshop in April. The orchid house is spectacular! I understand that in May they'll be showing garden railroad trains - since my N scale train and gardening are some of my favorite hobbies, I'm looking forward to that.

Currently, I'm working on an alligator and cypress trees painting from the Everglades, one of Little Moose Island (Schoodic Peninsula, Maine), and some harbor seals (Orr Point, Maine).

I'm trying to learn Italian for my upcoming May-June trip. I will consider my language skills a great success if I can ask directions and order meals! I'm looking forward to seeing where John Singer Sargent and most of the great artists painted.

Don't forget to stop and smell the daffodils!
