Jennifer Branch creates
light-filled watercolor landscape paintings from her studio in Atlanta,
Georgia. A modern impressionist, her paintings explore the full
possibilities of transparent watercolor, a medium bringing color and
light to life.
Coming from a strong family tradition of artists, she began her
painting career at an early age and has painted continuously every
since. Beginning by selling her
pen and ink sketches before she could drive, Jennifer Branch's only
profession has been that of artist. After exploring all mediums, the
limitless possibilities of watercolor captured her. Primarily self
taught, her watercolor style is uniquely vivid in color and concept.
Jennifer Branch's workshop series, Energizing Your Watercolors, draws
artists from around the world to learn from her unique painting style.
Her companion painting workshop videos inspire many artists. An article
demonstrating her painting techniques was featured in Watercolor
Magazine, Summer 2004, Paradise Found, The Florida Everglades.

“... this is an occupation known
as painting, which calls for imagination, and skill of hand, in order
to discovers things not seen, hiding themselves under the shadow of
natural objects, and to fix them with the hand, presenting to plain
sight what does not actually exist.”
Cennino Cennini

My
paintings are scattered around the world in private and corporate
collections. I have sold my work since I was fifteen, so quite a few
people collect my work.
I do not
give out the names of my collectors. I value my privacy and respect
theirs.
I do not
believe in "grants." Grants are mostly another name for paying for an
item - in which case grants should be simple called a purchase.
Grants are generally a way to get private individuals to pay for public displays they don't want or approve of.
I do think
public buildings need artwork to finish them. I think that is part of
their decoration or architecture cost and shouldn't be paid for in any
other way.
I don't think artists need vacations to create things on the federal dollar. I pay for vacations by selling my work!
The idea
that artists must be supported by the federal government, not stand or
fall on their own works' merit, is absurd. It denigrates artists and
their work. Art is valuable, not something people are forced to buy by
their government.
Art is part of life. Without art, our living environments are gray and dull. Art brings joy and happiness into everyday life.
I am happy and proud to be an working fine artist.
